Senior journalist Vinod Dua has been booked for sedition, printing defamatory matter and spreading rumour by the Shimla police following a complaint by Ajay Sharma, a resident of Kiara village, Theog subdivision, Kumarsain.
Sharma alleged that Dua had spread false news with an intent to cause fear and alarm among the public.
A case under Sections 124A, 268, 501, 505 of the IPC was registered at Kumarsain in Shimla district against Vinod Dua, senior journalist of HW News Network, and a notice under Section 160 CrPC was served on him through email on June 11 to appear before the SHO concerned, police sources said.
Sharma, who is the president of the Mahasu Mandal of the BJP, alleged that Dua in his show, “The Vinod Dua Show on Youtube”, on March 30 had alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had used terror attacks to garner votes, which amounted to inciting violence among citizens and disturbing peace.
He said Dua had claimed that the government did not have enough testing facilities and made false statement on the availability of PPE kits. Dua had circulated rumours with an intent to defeat lockdown by creating an impression that there was complete failure and all this was done to raise the TRP of his show, he added.
Meanwhile, Dua, in his twitter account, stated that he was issued notice by the police. He maintained that he was not well and could not register his physical presence and agreed to join the investigation through email or any other mechanism.
