The Nehru Yuva Kendra today organised a district-level Youth Parliament for youths of Una and Bilaspur districts.

Twenty-one youths from the two districts participated in a declamation contest on a topic of their choice from among three suggested by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

The three topics were ‘Making India a global leader’ – The role of young entrepreneurs in making India an economic power, ‘From Atmanirbhar to Viksit Bharat’ – Charting India’s growth trajectory powered by youth and ‘Empowering the future’ – Youth led initiatives paving the way for a responsible community. The participants had the choice of either speaking in English or Hindi.

The programme was held virtually at the National Informatics Centre in the District Secretariat building.

NYK Sangathan joint director Prabhat Kumar said the NYK and the Union Ministry of Youth Services and Sports provided many platforms to the youth to enable them convey their progressive ideas and thoughts to society.

Deputy Director of Una NYK, Lal Singh said the declamation contest was part of the National Youth Parliament Festival 2024. The district-level contests were being held at six districts in the state with youths from two districts participating in one contest.

Lal Singh said the two winners from each district will participate in the state Youth Parliament contest later this month. The three winners from the state will participate in the National Youth Parliament to be held next month.

NYK deputy director said the winner of the National Youth Parliament Contest will get a cash award of Rs 2 lakh, followed by Rs 1.5 lakh to the second position holder, while the third spot holder will be given a cash award of Rs 1 lakh.

The first two winners declared today from Bilaspur district were Sunisha (first) and Dikshit Nayak (second). Akriti Sharma (first) and Suhani Devi (second) were winners from Una district.
