Vivek of Trans-Giri graduates from NDA with pride & purpose

In a proud and inspiring moment for the remote Trans-Giri region of Himachal Pradesh, Vivek Singh Chauhan of Loja-Manal village in the Ronhat sub-tehsil of Sirmaur district has graduated from the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla — marking a major milestone in his journey to serve the nation.

Vivek was part of the 148th NDA course and began his training on August 9, 2022, after successfully clearing the rigorous selection process, which included a written examination, the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview and comprehensive medical evaluations. Following three years of intense military and academic training, he graduated on May 30 and will now proceed to the IMA in Dehradun for his final year of military training before commissioning into the Indian Armed Forces.

The proud occasion was celebrated by his family, who witnessed the ceremonial Passing Out Parade at the iconic Khetarpal Parade Ground in Maharashtra. Among them were his father, Lieutenant Colonel Jagat Singh Chauhan, his mother Monika Chauhan, a school teacher, his elder brother Rajat Chauhan and other close relatives. The event was especially emotional for Lt Col Chauhan, who had himself joined the Indian Army at the age of 18 and was commissioned as an officer in 2002.

“This is a proud moment not just for our family, but for the entire Shillai and Trans-Giri region,” said Lt Col Chauhan. “Vivek has grown up with the values and discipline of the armed forces. It’s heartening to see him follow the same path.”

This year’s NDA Passing Out Parade was historic, witnessing the graduation of 336 cadets, including the first batch of 17 women cadets — a transformative moment in the Academy’s storied legacy. The event was reviewed by Mizoram Governor and former Chief of Army Staff General (Dr) VK Singh (retd).

Vivek’s achievement serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for youth in the remote hill regions, encouraging them to aim high and pursue a life of honour, discipline and national service.
