Taking strong cognisance of illegal dumping in forest areas, the Municipal Corporation (MC), Shimla, has directed the Forest Department to take strict action and ensure such activities are curbed immediately.

The directives were issued by Mayor Surender Chauhan during the Corporation’s monthly general house meeting held today. He expressed concern over continued illegal dumping in forest zones, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Forest Department and not the Municipal Corporation.

“The Forest Department must act promptly to stop these environmentally harmful practices,” the Mayor said. He also asked officials to explain why illegal dumping was still occurring despite clear environmental risks and previous warnings.

Emphasising the Forest Department’s responsibility, the Mayor stated, “It is their duty to tighten the noose around those responsible. Illegal dumping poses a serious threat to the environment and forest cover, and strong measures must be taken to protect Shimla’s green zones.”

In addition to environmental concerns, the corporation also announced the launch of a mobile dispensary for dogs. Mayor Chauhan said the new service will provide first aid to injured dogs on the spot, reducing the need to transport them to hospitals or dog shelters for minor injuries. “This initiative will ensure quicker response and care for injured stray dogs,” he added.

The Mayor also said the state government has assigned a veterinarian to the corporation to assist with dog sterilisation efforts. The meeting also included a discussion on measures taken so far to control the stray dog menace in the city.
