Waste collected along NH-5

More than 700 bags of garbage have been collected during the past one-and-a-half month.

A special team under the leadership of Shimla (Rural) Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) collects garbage everyday for over two hours along the national highway 5 at the entry points of Shimla.

The team also segregates waste, which is then transported to Bhariyal plant for disposal. Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap said several initiatives were being taken by the administration to make the district cleaner. “The cleanliness campaign along the roadsides under Shimla (Rural) is playing an important role in beautifying the region. For the past one-and-a-half month, the SDM has personally participated in the drive. I urge the general public to participate in keeping Shimla clean and beautiful,” said the DC.

He said the team plans to continue the cleanliness drive in phases at entry points to Shimla that fall under the jurisdiction of Shimla (Rural). “The area around Tara Devi and Sankat Mochan Temple will also be included in the campaign,” he added.
