Arjun (pic), 24, a resident of Ward No. 3, had arranged a private water tanker on Thursday to meet his family’s daily needs. While attempting to drain water from the tanker using an electric motor from a neighbour’s house, he accidentally came in contact with a live wire attached to the motor. He received a fatal electric shock and collapsed instantly.

Despite being rushed first to Nurpur Civil Hospital and later shifted towards a private hospital in Pathankot, he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

The tragedy has left the entire town mourning. Arjun, who had married only four months ago, was the sole breadwinner of his family. A pall of gloom has descended over Nurpur, where residents say the struggle for drinking water has now cost them a precious life.
