Water scam: Contractors, tanker owners quizzed
The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, headed by ASP Narvir Rathore questioned the contractors, tanker owners, drivers and others in the alleged water scam at Theog today.
According to information, the SIU today questioned around 40 people and also checked the capacity of the vehicles that were used to distribute water in the area last summer. “The SIU is looking at every aspect of the matter and is collecting evidence. We will shortly reach the bottom of the matter,” said Rathore.
It may be mentioned that former MLA Rakesh Singha had flagged irregularities in the distribution of water through tankers in Theog and nearby areas on the basis of information gathered through the RTI. He had alleged that there was around ten-fold increase in the amount used for the distribution of water, and the registration number of some vehicles shown as tankers turned out to be of cars and motor cycles. Subsequently, the government suspended 10 officials of the Jal Shakti Vibhag and ordered a Vigilance probe into the matter. The government blacklisted the contractors.
Meanwhile, Theog MLA Kuldeep Rathore today spoke to Jal Shakti Vibhag Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and urged him to make arrangements for supplying water to the area as the contractors had been blacklisted. Attacking the BJP for “politicising the matter”, the MLA claimed that he would reveal the scams that had taken place during the BJP’s reign.
