Water sports activities would soon be started in Govind Sagar Lake and Chief Minister Sukhuvinder Singh Sukhu will inaugurate these, said Deputy Commissioner Abid Hussain in Bilaspur today. He said apart from jet skiing, speedboat cruise service would be started at the lake. He added that some of the equipment had already arrived in Bilaspur and the rest would arrive in the next few days.

The DC said the state government had in principle approved to start water sports, adventure and other activities at two dams in the district — Govind Sagar and Kol Dam. He said theses activities would be started after September 15 since there was restriction on water sports till then. He said it was also proposed to operate shikaras in these lakes.

The DC said that the government’s initiative would help in generation of new job openings for the youth. He said that a cruise would be operated in Kol Dam to ferry people between Kol Dam, Tatapani and Sunni on the borders of Shimla and Mandi districts. He said that Mandi’s Bharari village located on the four-lane junction of Bilaspur district would be the hub of adventure and water sports. He said that these activities would also help in improving the economy of the people of the area.
