As part of her three-day visit to the Kullu-Manali region of Himachal Pradesh, British Deputy High Commissioner Caroline Rowett toured the Bhuttico Handloom Cooperative Society in Kullu on Monday. She was accompanied by Rajinder S Nagarkoti, the UK Government’s Political, Press and Projects Adviser. The visit underscored the deepening cultural and economic ties between the United Kingdom and India.
During the tour, the UK delegation met with Bhuttico’s management and interacted directly with local artisans, who are preserving the centuries-old art of Himachali handloom weaving. The visit spotlighted not only the region’s rich textile heritage but also Bhuttico’s commitment to quality and traditional craftsmanship.
Speaking on recent developments in the textiles sector under the UK-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA), Rowett remarked, “UK businesses and consumers will benefit from increased access to tariff-free imports from India, with tariffs being eliminated on 99 per cent of Indian goods. This promises greater choice, improved quality and more affordable products — from frozen shrimp and apparel to textiles.”
