A pilgrim from West Bengal, who had gone on Kinnaur Kailash Yatra was found dead near Parvati Kund, the police said today.
The deceased has been identified as Dukhi Ram Sarkar (38), a resident of South Dumdum (M), North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. On August 7, the police received information that a pilgrim from West Bengal who was enroute to Kinnaur Kailash Yatra had gone missing. He was last seen at the peak of Kinnaur Kailash.
Taking prompt action upon receiving the information, a search operation was initiated by the police and quick reaction team (QRT) team. After relentless efforts, the body of the pilgrim was found near Parvati Kund on Friday.
The team then retreived the body with the assistance of the Mela Committee members. The body was then brought to Regional Hospital, Reckong Peo for the post-mortem examination. Kinnaur SP Abhishek Shekhar said they had informed family members of the deceased about the incident.
So far, three pilgrims who have lost their lives while over 1100 pilgrims have been rescued safely. The yatra that was scheduled to take place from July 15 to August 30, was temporarily suspended on August 5, following a flashflood, which washed away bridges at Tanglippi and Kangarang.
