Wet spell likely to continue in Himachal till Aug 3

Light to moderate rain occurred at many places and heavy rain at isolated places over the state during last 24 hours. Jogindernagar received the highest rainfall (90mm), followed by Dhaulakuan (70m), Naina Devi (60mm), Palampur (60mm), Sarahan (40mm).

As per the forecast issue by the weather department, the precipitation is likely to continue over the next six days in the state till August 3.

On August 1 and 2, the intensity of the precipitation is likely to increase further. Accordingly, the department has issued orange alert for these two days for heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places.

Due to the latest spell of precipitation, a car was buried in a landslide at Panthaghati in Shimla last night. The car was parked on the roadside when the incident happened.

There has been no large change in minimum and maximum temperatures during the last 24 hours. Average minimum and maximum temperatures were above normal.

Overall, the state has so far sustained damage of around Rs 411 crore in the monsoons season. The maximum damage has been reported by the PWD, which is around Rs 172 crore, followed by the horticulture sector worth around Rs 139 crore.
