Orange alert issued for heavy rain, snowfall in Himachal from Feb 26 to 28
The weather department has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh from February 26 to 28.
According to the weather forecast, fairly widespread rainfall and snowfall activity, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is likely to commence in the state from February 25 midnight till March 1 noon.
During this period, spells of light to moderate snowfall are expected in many places in the districts of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and the higher reaches of Kangra, Chamba, Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, and Sirmaur.
From February 26 to 28, isolated spells of heavy rain and snowfall are likely in the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi, with a possibility of very heavy rain and snowfall on February 27.
Isolated spells of rain and snowfall are also expected in Shimla and Sirmaur on February 27-28, while Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Solan may experience heavy rainfall on February 27-28.
Tourist destinations like Kufri, Narkanda, Manali, Solang Valley, Dalhousie, and Sissu may witness a few spells of light snowfall, with one or two moderate spells.
Cold day conditions are likely to prevail over some parts of the lower hills, plain areas, and mid-hills of the state on February 26-27.
