Wetlands film fest from Aug 30

A two-day ‘Wetlands for Life Film Festival and Forum’ will be held in Shimla on August 30 to highlight the crucial role of wetlands in the ecosystem.

The festival will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. This festival is part of the Indo-German Technical Cooperation project, ‘Wetlands Management for Biodiversity and Climate Protection’, initiated by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, and German Development Cooperation (GIZ).

The event is being organiaed by the Centre for Media Studies (CMS), New Delhi, under the guidance of Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE).

It aims to highlight the importance of wetlands in the ecosystem, with a focus on biodiversity, climate change mitigation and human well-being. The festival journey began with an inaugural event in Indore on World Wetlands Day in the presence of Dr Musonda Mumba, the Secretary-General of the Ramsar Convention on Wetland.

The two-day event will feature a variety of engaging programmes, including film screenings, panel discussions and interactive workshops, aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of the importance of wetlands.
