Mandi, July 9
To provide daily updates on maximum and minimum prices of fruits and vegetables to consumers in Mandi district, a WhatsApp channel ‘Vegetable News Mandi’ has been launched. The initiative, inaugurated by Mandi’s Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan at the DRDA Hall yesterday, aims to ensure that retailers sell fruits and vegetables at prices specified by the vegetable market, thus preventing overcharging.
Operated in collaboration with the district administration, including the District Controller, Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department, and the Agricultural Produce Market Committee, the channel will upload daily price ranges for fruits and vegetables at Mandi’s vegetable markets, including Jogindernagar, Takoli, Kangni Dhar Mandi, and Dhanotu.
The DC emphasised that the primary objective of the channel is to provide consumers with accurate information on the prescribed maximum and minimum prices, thereby enabling them to verify if retailers are selling produce at fair rates. He expressed confidence that the channel will prove highly beneficial
to consumers.
He further informed that besides WhatsApp, consumers can also install the channel on their mobile phones through links provided on the official Facebook pages of DC Mandi and DPRO Mandi. Additionally, consumers can report any instances of retailers selling fruits and vegetables above prescribed prices or failing to display price lists at the store to food inspectors or contact the Chief Minister’s Service Resolution Helpline at 1100 for appropriate action against erring shopkeepers.
Mandi ADC Rohit Rathour, District Controller Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Vijay Singh Hamal, Inspectors Meera Rana and Paras Ram, and Secretary APMC Mandi Vivek Chandel were present on the occasion.
The event marked a significant step towards empowering consumers with essential information and ensuring transparency in vegetable pricing across Mandi district.
