Wheels of change: Mandi youngsters drive twin campaign for green living, road safety

In a significant move to raise awareness about environmental conservation and road safety, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rohit Rathour flagged off a specially designed awareness vehicle in Mandi district. The initiative, focused on educating the public on two vital issues — safeguarding the environment and promoting responsible driving — marks a collaborative effort between local administration and grassroots activism.

The campaign, titled “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree in Mother’s Name) and “Drive Slow, Save Life,” is being spearheaded by Sunny Thakur, a passionate social worker from Khiyuri village in Mandi. The awareness vehicle will tour rural and urban parts of the district, sharing important messages through slogans, visual exhibits and interactive sessions designed to engage communities directly.

ADC Rathour commended Sunny Thakur for his dedication and creative approach, noting the significance of individual efforts in creating social change. During the event, Rathour handed over a formal letter of appreciation to Sunny, acknowledging the impact of his work.

“Your commitment to public interest through campaigns like ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ and ‘Drive Slow, Save Life’ is commendable,” read the letter. “Your initiative is not only educating society but also inspiring the youth. Going from village to village, encouraging people through slogans and creatively presenting social messages is truly praiseworthy.”

The district administration expressed hope that Sunny’s campaign would continue to influence positive change and inspire more youth to take up social causes. Over the next few weeks, the vehicle is expected to visit several villages, aiming to instill a deeper sense of environmental responsibility and traffic discipline among residents.
