White Christmas in Shimla likely as snowfall predicted from today

The higher reaches of the state are set to receive fresh snowfall from December 23 onwards raising hopes of white Christmas in the state’s capital.

As per the State’s Meteorological Department, light rain at isolated areas of plains and lower hills are likely to occur on December 23 while light snowfall along with rain is expected at a few places in the middle and higher hills of the state on December 23 and in isolated areas on December 24.

Meanwhile, weather will remain dry across the state on December 25 and 26, however, snowfall at higher and middle hills as well as rainfall at lower hills is likely to occur on December 27 and 28.

Besides, the department has issued an orange weather warning for Una, Bilaspur, Mandi and Hamirpur district till December 26, resulting in severe cold conditions at few places in these districts. The department has also issued a yellow weather warning for Chamba and Kangra districts till December 26, resulting in cold wave at isolated areas of these districts.

Meanwhile, weather was mostly dry across the state during the past 24 hours with light snowfall occurring at higher reaches of Lahaul and Spiti and Kullu districts.

Shimla, the state’s capital, recorded 17.4°C maximum temperature while prominent tourist destinations of Dharamsala and Manali recorded 20°C and 13.2°C, respectively. The maximum temperature in Solan was 22.5°C, Sundernagar 22.2°C, Bhuntar 18.6°C, Kalpa 11.6°C, Nahan 20.6°C, Kangra 20.4°C, Mandi 17.6°C, Bilaspur 21.8°C, Chamba 20.8°C, Kufri 10.5°C, Narakanda 11.8°C and Reckong Peo 15.2°C.

With 24.5°C maximum temperature, Una was the hottest place in the state while Tabo village in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest as it recorded minus 11.6°C minimum temperature.
