Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh today attended the ‘Swachh Shahar, Samridh Shahar’ programme organised by the Sunni Municipal Council in Shimla Rural Assembly segment.

He said a ghat would be constructed on the banks of the Sutlej in Sunni.

He said the people would be able to perform ‘aarti’ and other religious activities on the ghat.

The minister said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had launched the ‘Swachh Shahar, Samridh Shahar’ programme on February 10, which would continue till March 9.

He said under this initiative, a cleanliness drive was being conducted across the state, with cooperation of various departments, including the involvement of school and college students, panchayat representatives, social and religious organisations and volunteers.

He added that the Sunni MC had contributed significantly in cleaning the area under its jurisdiction.

“A decision to make Sunni a Municipal Corporation will be taken after the census data is available later this year,” he added.

He assured that a Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s (SDM) office would be permanently established in Sunni within the next 10 days. Additionally, a mini-secretariat would also be constructed in Sunni and provisions for this would be made in the Budget session.

He informed that the Sunni Civil Hospital would be upgraded to a 100-bed hospital and discussions would be held with the Health Minister to fill the vacant posts on a priority basis. A huge parking facility would also be built in Sunni, he said.
