Will raise Theog hospital upgrade issue with Cabinet: Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil
Shimla, January 29
Responding to the long-standing demand of the local residents of Theog and surrounding areas to upgrade civil hospital, Theog, into a district hospital, Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil has given assurance that he would take up the matter in the Cabinet.
Theog MLA Kuldeep Singh Rathore, while supporting the demand, said the upgrade of Theog hospital was required as it caters to a lot of patients, even those coming from faraway places like Karsog and Seraj.
Incidentally, the local people had been demanding improvement in the facilities and additional doctors and nursing staff for some time now. Under the banner of ‘Aspatal Bachao Sangharsh Samiti’, the residents of Theog and the surrounding villages had sat on chain hunger strike last month.
After hearing the grievances of the local people regarding the hospital, the Health Minister issued directions to appoint nursing officers in the hospital on priority basis by February end. Also, he said that the ultrasound machine would be provided shortly to the hospital and the CT-scan machine would soon be available under the PPP mode.
Visiting the Theog-Kumarsain Assembly Constituency as part of the ‘Sarkar Gaon Ke Dwar’ programme, Shandil said that facilities in the peripheral hospitals would be improved to reduce the burden on major hospitals in Shimla. “For this, the Kumarsain hospital will be turned into a model health facility,” said the minister.
