Will rope in experts to rejuvenate Dal Lake at Naddi, says Kewal Singh Pathania

Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania announced today that experts will be consulted to rejuvenate the famous Dal Lake at Naddi, Dharamsala, which is facing water depletion, endangering its aquatic life and scenic beauty. Chairing a meeting with officials from the Tourism and Forest departments, Pathania stressed that renowned conservationists and geological experts would be called upon to study the lake and address the issue.

Since 2004, Rs 31 lakh has been spent on beautification of the Dal Lake by the Forest and IPH departments, yet the cause of the lake’s water seepage remains unclear. Local activists have begun relocating aquatic life to nearby water bodies to safeguard the species.

Pathania also mentioned that the Kangra Deputy Commissioner is collaborating with Anand Malligavad, known as the “Lake Man of India”, to develop a sustainable solution to prevent further drying of the lake. Other experts are also expected to be consulted for comprehensive advice.

In addition to Dal Lake, efforts will be made to revitalise the Khajjiar Lake in Chamba, a site of both tourism and religious significance. Pathania highlighted the importance of both lakes, noting that locals have strong religious attachments to these water bodies. A proposal to invite experts for scientific studies on the lakes will soon be discussed with the Chief Minister.
