A woman from Peepalwala (Kaulawala Bhood) in Sirmaur district has levelled serious allegations of dowry harassment, physical assault and threats of teen talaq (instant triple divorce) against her husband and in-laws. The complainant, Muskan Bano, has submitted a written plea to the Sirmaur Superintendent of Police (SP) seeking strict legal action and immediate protection for herself and her child.

According to her complaint, Muskan was married to Nawab Khan on November 6, 2021, in accordance with Muslim customs. She alleged that her parents gave dowry far beyond their means — Rs 25 lakh in cash, along with household items, electronics, furniture, clothes and other valuable gifts.

However, the marriage quickly turned distressing. Muskan claimed she was mentally and physically harassed by her husband, Nawab Khan, and his family — including her father-in-law, mother-in-law and brother-in-law — mainly over persistent dowry demands. She further alleged that her husband frequently used the threat of teen talaq as a tool of control and intimidation. Eventually, he physically assaulted her and expelled her from their home.

Muskan also revealed that she had filed a complaint earlier in June 2023, which was later compromised. Unfortunately, rather than improving, the abuse intensified. She alleged that Nawab and his family resumed threatening her, warning that he would remarry and her family would suffer if she interfered.

On March 6, 2025, Nawab allegedly visited her with his brother and son, issuing fresh threats. He reportedly declared his intention to remarry within two months and warned of severe consequences if she attempted to obstruct him.

Muskan has now urged the police to register a case against the accused and provide immediate security for her and her child. She expressed grave concern for her safety and called for swift and decisive action under the laws that protect women from dowry-related abuse and the misuse of triple talaq.
