Woman among 2 peddlers held with heroin in Indora segment
During a campaign launched against drug mafia in the inter-state border area, Nurpur district police arrested two alleged drug peddlers, including a woman, in Indora Assembly constituency on Sunday evening.
Following a tip-off, a team of the Indora police station conducted a raid at a house in Tamota village and recovered 8.40 gram heroin from a woman, identified as Kalpana. She was arrested by the police and a case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act was registered against her.
Ashok Ratan, SP, Nurpur, said after preliminary investigation, it was found that the woman was a habitual offender and involved in drug peddling in the area. He said four cases under the NDPS Act were already registered against her at the Indora police station.
“The first FIR under the NDPS act was registered after recovery of 1.366 kg poppy husk from the suspect on November 12, 2017. The second FIR under the same act was registered after recovery of 2.01 gram heroin from her. The third case was registered after recovery of 6.75 gram heroin on May 6, 2021, from her. The fourth case was registered on February 11 this year after recovery of 7.88 gram heroin from woman,” the SP said.
In another case, the Damtal police in Nurpur police district raided a house at Chhanni village and recovered 11.2-gram heroin from a peddler identified as Balwinder Singh. The police discovered that he was booked for drug peddling in the area earlier too. Two cases under Section 21 of the NDPS act were already registered against him.
On January 17, 2017, 2.60 gram heroin was recovered from him. On July 30, 2022, 4.30 gram heroin was recovered from the suspect. The Nurpur SP said the police would initiate a financial investigation against both drug peddlers.
