A woman was allegedly found murdered inside a rented room in the Devinagar area of Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district on Monday morning, with police arresting her partner from the spot after locals raised an alarm.
Police said they received information around 9:30 am, following which a team rushed to the spot.
The victim, identified as Mala Devi from Uttar Pradesh, was found lying in a pool of blood. Her partner, Sheesh Pal from Haryana, was present inside the room and did not attempt to flee. Locals informed the police, who arrested him on the spot.
A forensic team also reached the scene and collected evidence.
According to the preliminary investigation, the accused was drunk when he allegedly hit the woman on the head with a glass bottle, causing her death.
Sirmaur SP Nishchint Singh Negi said the two had been living together, though whether they were married or in a live-in relationship will be verified after statements from the woman’s family.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and further investigation is under way, added police.
