Woman held for duping Kullu resident of Rs15 lakh

The police have arrested a woman from New Delhi for allegedly duping a Kullu resident of Rs 15 lakh. Kullu SP Gaurav Singh said the accused, identified as Manisha (24), had been brought to Kullu.
In her complaint to the police on November 24, the victim stated that she had received a call on June 1 in which the caller told her that her cellphone number had been selected in the lucky draw of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC)’ and that she had won Rs 40 lakh.
The called asked her to pay some money in installments till November before receiving the prize amount. The accused threatened her that if she disclosed this to anyone then the KBC company would file a legal suit against her and close the file.
The SP said the victim deposited Rs 15 lakh in different bank accounts provided by the accused.
The accused told the victim that her cellphone number was of the US and that she could not receive calls.
The SP said the cellphone, ATM cards, cheque books, pass books and other identity cards used to create fake bank accounts had been recovered from the accused.
The SP has appealed to the masses to remain vigilant and not to deposit money in unknown bank accounts in the name of lottery, gifts or any other pretext.
