A woman was found dead inside a rented room this morning in the Devinagar area of Paonta Sahib, Sirmaur district. Upon receiving

information, the police reached the spot immediately.

The deceased, identified as Mala Devi from Uttar Pradesh, was found lying in a pool of blood. Her partner, Sheesh Pal from Haryana, was present at the spot and did not try to flee. Locals informed the police and he was arrested on the spot.

According to the initial police investigation, the accused was drunk when he hit the woman on her head with a glass bottle, resulting in her death. Sirmaur SP Nishchint Singh Negi confirmed the incident and said both were living together, but whether they were married or in a live-in relationship will be confirmed after statements from the woman’s family.

The police have sent the body for post-mortem and are investigating the matter from all possible angles. Source said this is the second murder case involving migrants in Paonta Sahib within one month.
