Woman, son-in-law die as car plunges into gorge in Chamba
A woman and her son-in-law were killed when the car in which they were travelling skidded off the road and plunged into a 100-metre gorge on the Juari-Kehla road in Churah subdivision of Chamba district late Thursday evening.
The deceased had been identified as Dei, a resident of Lathrund village, and Khem from Thanei village.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the two were going to the house of Dei’s daughter when the accident occurred. Locals rushed to the site and started rescue efforts before informing the authorities.
Both were pulled up to the roadside and rushed to Civil Hospital Tissa in an injured condition. Dei succumbed to her injuries during treatment, while Khem Raj was referred to Chamba Medical College due to his critical condition. He also passed away late in the evening.
Churah Deputy Superintendent of Police Ranjan Sharma said a case had been registered and further investigation was underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. The bodies have been handed over to kin after post mortem.
