Women farmers to be trained to develop kitchen gardens

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today said that under the Mahila Kissan scheme, women would be trained to develop backyard kitchen gardens in about one bigha. The agriculture and horticulture departments would provide them seasonal vegetable seed kits and fruits tree saplings.
Similarly, 10 boxes of beehives would be provided to trained women self-help groups (SHGs) and honey produced by them would be sold through Him Ira Shops, he added.
Thakur presided over a meeting here to ensure economic revival at the village household level post-Covid -19 pandemic. The Rural Development Department has launched the Mahila Kissan scheme. Director, Rural Development, Lalit Jain gave a presentation on ‘Economic Stimulus Package to Help Rural Poor’ to the Chief Minister. He said that the department had made five lakh masks and around 1,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) and produced 1,250 litres of hand sanitiser.
The Chief Minister said that under the proposed One Cow Scheme, Indian breed cows would be provided to poor women farmers at highly subsidies rates.
Thakur said the government was contemplating a mission to tie up with the Education Department to supply school uniform. He added that the uniform could be stitched by women self-help groups, for which trained tailoring teachers would be arranged.
The Chief Minister said that new initiatives would be taken under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act scheme (MNREGA). He added that under the UNNATI Project, at least one member of the families of such persons, who had completed 100 days employment under MNREGA, would be provided necessary skill development training.
