Women are the true foundation of nation-building and the state government is committed to their empowerment through various welfare schemes, said Arki MLA Sanjay Awasthi while addressing the closing ceremony of Alankar Mahotsav-II in Kunihar. The event, organised for women self-help groups (SHGs) from the Kunihar development block, highlighted their entrepreneurial efforts and contributions to rural livelihoods.

Awasthi emphasised that under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the state government is actively working to strengthen the economic and social standing of women, particularly those from marginalised communities. He stated that self-help groups play a crucial role in improving women’s financial independence and providing them with a stable source of income. He commended the handmade products displayed at the exhibition organised under the Rashtriya Gramin Ajeevika Mission, assuring that the state government would ensure fair pricing for their goods, thereby supporting their economic sustainability.

During his address, Awasthi elaborated on several government initiatives aimed at improving the lives of women, particularly widows and single mothers. He highlighted the Mukhyamantri Sukh-Shiksha Yojana, under which the government covers the educational expenses of children whose widowed mothers earn less than Rs 1 lakh annually. Additionally, he mentioned that children of widowed, destitute, divorced or disabled parents are entitled to a monthly allowance of Rs 1,000 until they turn 18.

Speaking about the developmental projects for Kunihar, Awasthi assured that adequate funds have been allocated to ensure balanced progress in the region.

He announced that land identification for a modern hospital is underway, and the government would soon allocate a dedicated budget for its construction. Additionally, the foundation stone for a new sub-tehsil building would be laid shortly, and efforts are being made to expand the vegetable market to meet the needs of local farmers and traders.

The event concluded with Awasthi honouring the winners of various competitions, including women’s kabaddi, tug-of-war, music, and folk dance. An Art and Craft exhibition, organised by students of PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kunihar, was also a highlight of the evening, showcasing the creative talents of the younger generation.
