The women’s kabaddi team gave Himachal its first gold medal in the ongoing National Games in Uttarakhand, defeating Haryana 27-22 in the final.
Incidentally, it’s the third consecutive gold medal for the women’s team in National Games. “Our girls had clinched gold medal in the two previous editions of the National Games held in Goa and Ahmadabad as well,” said Kuldeep Rana, the coach of the team.
Led by skipper Pushpa Rana, the team performed really well throughout the tournament and defeated the strong Haryana team in the final. “The best performance in the final came from Bhawna and Pushpa, these two set up the game for us,” the coach said. Rajesh Bhandari, Secretary, Himachal Pradesh Olympic Association, and Raj Kumar Bharanta, president of the State Kabaddi Association, congratulated the team for winning the gold for the state.
