The 9th National Women’s Ice Hockey Championship will kick-start at Kaza in Lahaul and Spiti on Sunday and will conclude on January 20.

Kaza Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Mohan Dutt Sharma said Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur would be the chief guest of the opening ceremony, while Technical Education and Tribal Development Minister Ram Lal Markanda would be the distinguished guest.

“The championship will formally start at 10.30 am on Sunday. Six teams from Himachal, Telangana, Chandigarh, Delhi, ITBP, and Ladakh, are participating in it,” he said.

“It is for the first time that a national competition is being organised in this tribal district. Cultural programmes will also be presented. One match will also be played between men and women’s teams,” the ADM said.

Meanwhile, the National Ice Hockey Development Camp, which started on December 25, concluded at Kaza. —
