Work on medical college building to begin in July

Chamba, June 4

The construction work of the building complex of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital (PJNGMC&H) was likely to begin in the month of July.

Presiding over a meeting of district offices to review various development works in the district here today, HP Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Hans Raj said funds worth Rs 11.25 crore had been allocated for the hospital.

He said that in Chamba district, Rs 160 crore were spent on various PWD schemes, while Rs 30.43 crore were spent on schemes of Jal Shakti Vibhag during the last fiscal that ended March 31. He said that Rs 55.45 crore were being spent on the health department buildings.

Earlier, the Deputy Speaker reviewed the steps taken to contain Covid spread. He said that to combat the pandemic, Chamba district was doing a better job in Himachal Pradesh so far as the ratio of health samples collection was concerned. The sample collection rate per 1,000 population of the state is 5.8, while in Chamba district the rate is 7.75 per 1,000, he said.

He said that a total of 26 positive cases had been reported in the district so far, out of which 13 had fully recovered. At present, there were 13 active cases in the district who were undergoing treatment.

He claimed that other states also adopted the model adopted by Himachal to deal with coronavirus and the Prime Minister had appreciated the efforts made by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.

Deputy Commissioner Vivek Bhatia and SP Dr Monika Bhutunguru, besides other district officers, also attended the meeting.
