A workshop on the design and technical development of the iconic ‘Chamba Rumal’ was inaugurated today by Padma Shri awardee Vijay Sharma at Mohalla Ramgarh Dashnami Akhara, Chamba.
Organised by Himachal Pradesh Chamba Handicrafts and Handloom Textile Producer Company Limited in collaboration with the Development Commissioner, Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles, New Delhi, the workshop aims to preserve and promote the traditional craft of ‘Chamba Rumal’.
During the inaugural session, Sharma highlighted the cultural significance of this heritage craft and encouraged artisans and designers to explore innovative techniques while staying rooted in tradition.
The event is focused on enhancing the skills of local artisans, introducing new design possibilities and promoting sustainable practices in the production of Chamba Rumal.
This initiative marks a significant step towards sustaining this traditional craft and supporting the livelihoods of artisans in the region.
