The HP Council for Science, Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE) and the district disaster management authority organised a three-day training programme to equip masons of Solan block on earthquake resistant construction technology.
The training, which concluded today, was organised on the guidelines of Special Area Development Authority, Shimla. Additional district magistrate Vivek Chandel was the chief guest. He said five masons in each panchayat would be given the training and its second phase would begin in January. This initiative alone would lead to construction of buildings, which would be able to withstand natural disasters.
In all, 31 masons, carpenters and bar binders participated in the workshop. Resource persons from the HIMCOSTE, including Gopal Jain, scientific officer, Prem Lal Thakur, architect assistant, Kalit Bhardwaj, senior technical assistant, Ishan Sharma and others —gave a live demonstration.
The team apprised them of the basic fundamentals of hazard resistant constructions on anchorage, bracing connection and ductility of the earthquake resistant structure. The masons performed the field work at site in which the earthquake resistant features were incorporated in the foundation up to plinth level. The plinth band and vertical reinforcement were given in the earthquake resistant building. ACC cements provided kits to the masons and facilitated the training. Bottom of Form
