Awareness workshops were held in Solan and Parwanoo under the Central government’s Greening of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) scheme to promote sustainable industrial development in Himachal Pradesh.

The initiative aims to provide specialised training on energy conservation, waste management and green financing to over 2,500 MSMEs across the state.

In Solan, around 50 participants took part in hands-on sessions covering energy saving, waste recycling, water management and sustainable financing methods. Surender Thakur, General Manager of the District Industry Centre (DIC), Solan, said the workshop was “highly productive,” with representatives from 40-45 MSME units showing keen interest in adopting cleaner production technologies.

Participants were introduced to key sustainability concepts, including Resource-Efficient Cleaner Production (RECP), zero-emission targets, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) frameworks, circular economy practices and carbon emission reduction strategies. The sessions also covered digital monitoring systems, green technology providers and available financial support options.

The Greening of MSMEs programme is part of the Government of India’s RAMP (Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance) initiative, supported by the World Bank. In Himachal Pradesh, around 1,900 MSMEs are already being linked to structured green transition plans, with the target set to expand this outreach to more than 2,500 enterprises in the near future.
