Una Superintendent of Police Amit Yadav today flagged off three vehicles at the district headquarters, dedicating them to traffic policing in the Una district. The vehicles — two patrolling units and one interceptor — have been funded under a World Bank project.

Addressing the media, the SP said the hi-tech vehicles had been received from the state police headquarters with the aim of enhancing road safety. He said fatal accidents occur every year on inter-state highways in the district, with the Amb–Mubarikpur stretch of the National Highway being the most vulnerable.

Yadav said the vehicles are equipped with features such as 360-degree cameras, alcohol sensors, a global positioning system and Doppler radars to check vehicle speeds, along with several other capabilities. These technologies, he said, will help the police deter speeding, intercept suspicious vehicles and record high-accuracy video footage for use in investigations.

The SP said three road sectors have been identified for the primary deployment of these vehicles: Mehatpur to Ghaluwal, Dhussara to Mubarikpur, and Jhalera to Bankhandi. He added that the vehicles will also play a crucial role in responding to road accidents, helping rush victims to health institutions within the first hour — the “golden hour” during which survival chances are highest.
