World Tuberculosis Day: 35 gram panchayats in Solan declared tuberculosis-free
As many as 35 gram panchayats in Solan district have been declared tuberculosis (TB)-free, marking a significant milestone in the state’s fight against the disease.
Solan Deputy Commissioner Manmohan Sharma presided over the Tuberculosis-Free Gram Panchayat Award Ceremony, organised at the district level by the Health and Family Welfare Department on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day. While addressing the gathering, he emphasised that TB is a treatable disease and can be eradicated with proper medication and awareness.
During the event, Sharma honoured the 35 gram panchayats for achieving TB-free status as per the Centre’s standards. He stressed the importance of raising public awareness about the causes, prevention, and treatment of TB, adding that free tests and medicines are being provided by the government to ensure effective treatment.
Highlighting the government’s support for TB patients, he mentioned that financial assistance of Rs 1,000 per month is provided for six months to support nutritional needs during treatment. He urged panchayat representatives to actively promote TB awareness, emphasising that the state government aims to eliminate TB by 2025.
He also revealed that 11 gram panchayats in Solan district were assessed as TB-free, based on the government criteria. Representatives from the gram panchayats of Bhumati, Dumahar, Maan, Mangal, and Palaniya (Kunihar block), Bhagudi (Dharampur
