The alert forecasts heavy rainfall on July 24 and 26 at certain locations of the district, with moderate showers predicted on July 23 and 25.

Urging people to take caution amid the flash-flood warning, the DC appealed to the general public and tourists visiting the district to avoid venturing close to river banks, landslide-prone areas, high-altitude regions and to stay indoors at safe locations. He recommended travel only when necessary during these days.

He also urged all village heads, non-governmental organisations, trekkers and citizens to disseminate information about precautions to prevent any untoward incidents during the period of potential disaster.

“For assistance during emergencies, the tourists and residents can contact the District Disaster Management Control Room on helpline numbers 01905-226201, 202, 203, 204, or toll-free number 1077,” he added.

The DC stated that the control rooms were set up at the subdivisional levels to provide support during the emergencies through these helpline numbers. He said besides the district-level facilities, the subdivisional control rooms were operational round the clock.

The DC also provided details of the helpline numbers in these control rooms. Considering the yellow alert issued by the Met for July 24 and 26, the DC instructed all subdivisional officials to remain on high alert.

“For further information and assistance during the emergencies, the residents can contact these helpline numbers established by the District Disaster Management Control Room,” he added.
