Condemning the recent protest of Youth Congress held outside the Raj Bhawan in Shimla against the alleged vote theft in elections, BJP state president Dr Rajeev Bindal today said that the protest was illegal and is an example of indecent political conduct.

Bindal, in a press statement issued here, said that entering the Raj Bhavan, a high-security and restricted area without permission and burning an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi shows that the Congress is willing to stoop to any extent to challenge the constitutional norms.

He said the protest was an attempt to put pressure on Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, intimidate him and compel him to take unconstitutional decisions. “This is a direct attack on the democratic system of the country,” he added.

He said a serious constitutional crisis has emerged in the state. “The escalating conflict between the government and the Election Commission regarding Panchayati Raj elections has further complicated the situation. Recently, the Himachal Pradesh State Election Commissioner met the Governor and submitted a detailed letter expressing the concern about the current situation in the state, which proves that the state government is undermining the powers of constitutional institutions.

He alleged the present state government is trying to pressurise administrative officers and attempting to suppress the democratic rights of panchayat pradhans, BDC members, ward members, Zila Parishad members and Municipal representatives. “This is against the very spirit of democracy and the constitution,” said Bindal.
