Chandigarh, February 24
Himachal IGP Zahur Haider Zaidi’s bail plea in the Kotkhai custodial death case will come up for hearing before the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday. His petition was placed before Justice Arvind Singh Sangwan’s Bench today but was adjourned for a day.
Zaidi had moved the High Court following the cancellation of his bail by the CBI court after a prosecution witness stated that she was being pressured in an attempt to influence the trial. Zaidi’s contention is that mere allegation regarding intimidation or threat cannot form the basis of the order.
Zaidi is an accused in the case related to the custodial death of a man who was among those arrested on the allegations of gangraping a minor schoolgirl in Kotkhai in Shimla district in 2017.
Amid public outcry in the state, an SIT, headed by Zaidi, was constituted. Zaidi had been granted bail by the Supreme Court last year. — TNS
