Senior IPS officer from Himachal Pradesh Zahur Haider Zaidi, seeking interim bail on medical ground in the Kotkhai custodial death case, did not get relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court today. The High Court’s official website said his application stood dismissed by Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, though the order was yet to be uploaded.

Appearing in person on the virtual platform, Zaidi had earlier stated that he would file the “relevant discharge summary regarding his hospitalisation and medical conditions mentioned in the application”.

Zaidi had initially moved the High Court following the cancellation of his bail by the UT CBI court after a prosecution witness stated that she was being pressured in an attempt to influence the trial. Zaidi’s contention was that mere allegation regarding intimidation or threat could not form basis of the order.

Zaidi is an accused in the case related to the custodial death of a man, who was among those arrested on the allegations of gang-raping a minor schoolgirl at Kotkhai in Shimla district in 2017. — TNS
