The district administration of Mandi has initiated a “zero tolerance” policy to curb drug abuse, with joint efforts from the police and local administration to break the supply and demand chain of narcotics. During the launch of the Narco Coordination Centre and the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign, Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan emphasised the need for community participation in this mission.
He noted that today’s youth are easily drawn towards drug addiction, which poses a grave threat not only to their future but also to society. The DC said collective efforts from various stakeholders, including SDMs, DSPs, SHOs and local representatives, are crucial to eliminating this issue. He encouraged local bodies to adopt the “zero tolerance” policy against drugs.
The DC urged officials to adopt schools and motivate children to stay away from drugs. He called on all departments to conduct special activities to promote drug awareness during the upcoming International Shivaratri festival.
Additional District Magistrate Dr Madan Kumar highlighted the role of police and health departments in regularly inspecting drug rehabilitation centres. He mentioned that there are currently four centres in the district, including one government-run and three private centres. The ADM reiterated the importance of a public movement to check drug abuse. Additional Superintendent of Police Sagar Chand stated that the Police Department was enforcing the “zero tolerance” policy and is seizing properties of those involved in the drug trade.
