Panipat school sacks teacher for teaching ‘Kalma’ to students

No police action has been initiated into the matter, says SHO

A private school reportedly terminated the services of a Sanskrit teacher for allegedly teaching ‘Kalma’ to students of Class VIII.

Some parents reached the school and complained about it. The Quila SHO, Sub-Inspector Shri Niwas, also reached the school. As per information, the incident took place at Saraswati Vidya Mandir, a private school in Ward 10. The teacher taught ‘Kalma’ to the students two days ago.

The matter came to the fore when some students were reciting the ‘Kalma’ at home, and their parents overheard it. The parents then approached the school administration, along with members of the Hindu Mahasabha, and demanded the termination of the services of the teacher.

The Principal, Indu, said the teacher had been with the school for the past one year. She said during the inquiry it came to light that students had asked about Islamic prayer method from the teacher, and to satisfy their curiosity, the teacher recited one or two lines of the ‘Kalma’.

No police action had been initiated into the matter, the SHO said.
