50% jump in challans as police up ante against parking violations in Panchkula

Looking to curb traffic disruptions caused by illegal parking, the traffic police have intensified enforcement, issuing 1,905 challans for unauthorised parking in the first six months of 2025 — a significant increase from the 1,276 challans issued during the same period last year.

The drive, undertaken under the direction of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP, Crime and Traffic) Amit Dahiya, aims to improve road discipline and reduce public inconvenience caused by obstructive parking. With frequent congestion reported on key roads due to haphazardly parked vehicles, traffic police have focused efforts on hotspots known for repeat violations.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Inspector Sunil Kumar, station house officer Panchkula City Traffic, and Sub-Inspector Narendra Kumar, in-charge of Surajpur Traffic, with targeted action in areas receiving multiple public complaints.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP, Traffic) Shukarpal Singh emphasised that the campaign is intended to ensure smoother traffic flow and enhance commuter safety. He urged residents to park only in designated areas, warning that strict action will continue against those who flout the rules.

“Public cooperation is essential to prevent unnecessary jams and inconvenience,” the ACP said, confirming that the campaign will remain ongoing.
