As the world moves toward a more interconnected future, the relationship between water and energy is becoming increasingly critical. This interdependency, often referred to as the water-energy-environment nexus, highlights the complex challenges facing energy and water security, both of which have profound implications for environmental sustainability. Addressing these challenges requires a global and regional approach, fostering cooperation to achieve water, energy, and environmental security. Such collaboration presents new opportunities for innovation, resource optimization, and sustainable growth. However, unlocking these opportunities necessitates a shared understanding of common challenges and the establishment of mutual trust among stakeholders.
Only through coordinated efforts can businesses and communities transition toward a sustainable future that balances environmental stewardship with economic and social development. The conference will serve as a platform for policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, private sector, academia, embassies, experts from 30 countries to discuss the pressing challenges and find sustainable integrated solutions related to the water-energy-environment nexus.
The event will be commemorated by the release of a Special Cover by the India Post and release of a book “My Friday Musings” by Dr. Arvind Kumar, President, India Water Foundation. This book highlights contemporary global challenges, though many of them resonate to India as well. The articles are written with a distinctive style to discuss various social, economic and environmental concerns which fall under the umbrella of Sustainability, Transversality and Nexus which are the pillars for tinging the broader canvas of Sustainable Development Goals. This book is a compilation of his 101 selected Friday blogs and are purposefully crafted to engage and inform.
Key Themes of the Conference: Key themes of the conference range from water circularity to industrial water use efficiency, ecosystem restoration, green hydrogen production. For countries like India, green hydrogen also offers the potential to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, improve energy self-sufficiency, and stimulate green economic growth by creating jobs in renewable energy infrastructure and production. This aligns with global climate goals and sustainable development priorities. Decarbonization involves reducing greenhouse gas emissions by shifting to clean energy and sustainable practices, while net zero aims to balance emissions with removals, achieving a climate-neutral, sustainable future. Topics like disaster risk reduction, renewable energy, energy, water and health trilemma and other diverse topics will be discussed as well. Organizations like UN OPS, GIZ, IUCN, IHE Delft Institute of Water Education, Institute for Studies on Industrial Development (ISID) will be organizing side events on related topics.
In addition to the conference, the India Water Foundation will also present Water Transversality global awards to individuals, organizations, government, utilities, communities that have significantly contributed to the sustainability and transversality to water-energy-environment nexus. These awards will recognize outstanding leadership, research, innovation, policy development, manufacturing, and community engagement achievements.
