Incessant rain results in traffic jams, waterlogging in Faridabad
An almost non-stop downpour that started around noon resulted in normal to severe waterlogging in a majority of the low-lying areas in the city and district.
As light showers continued till late evening in many parts, vehicles had to negotiate through 2-3 feet of water in many areas plagued by poor stormwater drainage.
“Roads and streets in a large number of residential areas, including urban sectors and colonies located in the various zones of the NIT, Old Faridabad and Ballabgarh, got submerged under 1 to 3 feet of water,” said Narender Sirohi, a resident. He said waterlogging results after every downpour and the residents are left to brave the problems connected with waterlogging due to the weak and obsolete drainage infrastructure.
The rain also affected the movement of traffic, said sources in the Traffic Police Department. The police had to face hardships in controlling the movement of vehicles as traffic signals stopped working at some congested points.
SK Sharma, a resident, said he had to think twice before going out in connection with some work.
Many vehicles, especially two-wheelers, broke down due to the waterlogged passages, according to Varun, a resident. Power supply also remained affected for various durations in many parts of the city due to local faults and disruption caused by rain, said the Power Department.
