The Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Friday announced the names of 100 children declared winners of a pan-India essay writing contest organised to mark Republic Day.

Each winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and an opportunity to witness the Republic Day Parade as special guests at Kartavya Path. This year, approximately 1.76 crore students from around 2.31 lakh schools participated in the competition, the MoD said.

Called ‘Veer Gatha’, this was fourth edition of the competition. Students were asked to write about their role models, particularly focusing on gallantry award recipients.
