13th annual convocation held at VIT Chennai

The 13th annual convocation of VIT Chennai was held today. Chief guest Dr Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services, Government of Tamil Nadu, presented medals and degree certificates to rank holders and PhD scholars. Shelley Salehin, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, Chennai, was the guest of honour.

In his address, Dr Rajan stressed the importance of universal access to education for everyone across genders, communities and religions. He appealed to the youth to follow their own vision and path.

In a press release, VIT founder and Chancellor Dr G Viswanathan said that if so many young people had access to quality higher education, it was primarily due to the investment of parents. He appealed to the Centre and state governments to invest more in education, particularly in higher education.

In total, 6,581 undergraduates, postgraduates and research scholars received their degrees.
