18 Indians stranded in Benghazi rescued
India rescued its 18 stranded nationals from Libya’s Benghazi, Ministry of External Affairs(MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Tuesday.
He said Indian Embassy in Libya had facilitated the return of 18 Indian nationals from Benghazi.
“They would be arriving in India tomorrow. They had gone to work in Libya and had been stranded for several weeks. The embassy worked closely with the local authorities and assisted the Indian workers with required authorisation and travel documents,” Jaiswal said.
“While their case was being looked into, the embassy remained in constant touch with them to ensure their well-being, assisting them with articles of daily living. Three other Indian nationals from the same group, assisted by the embassy, had returned to India last October,” he said.
Jaiswal also thanked Libyan authorities for their support and cooperation. He added the Indian government remained committed to the welfare and safety of all Indians abroad.
