1991 batch IPS officer Praveen Vashista appointed Special Secretary (Internal Security)

Will hold charge till his superannuation in 2026

Praveen Vashista, a 1991 IPS officer of Bihar cadre, who is currently Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), has been appointed Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the ministry.

He will be an OSD till the retirement of Sivagami Sundari Nanda, who is currently Special Secretary (Internal Security). Her retirement is due on December 31.

Nanda, a 1988 batch IPS officer of AGMUT cadre, is also in charge of the cyber security wing of the MHA, I4C (Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre). She was also the first woman DGP of Puducherry.

According to an order issued by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC), Vashista will hold the charge of Special Secretary till his superannuation on July 31, 2026.

Meanwhile, according to the ACC order, Vashista's tenure as Additional Secretary in the MHA has been curtailed to facilitate his appointment as OSD in the ministry till December 31.
