2 BSF jawans hurt as Naxals set off IED in Chhattisgarh
Two personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) were injured when Maoists set off an IED in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh on Friday. The incident took place in the morning when a BSF road-opening party was out on patrolling near Garpa village, sources in the security establishment said.
The road-opening party was between the camp and Garpa village when Maoists detonated the IED causing injuries to two jawans, they said. One jawan suffered an injury on his hand and was admitted to a hospital in Narayanpur. The other received an eye injury. He was shifted to a hospital in Raipur, the sources informed.
They said though Narayanpur was a sensitive area, the security forces had managed to secure it from Maoists. However, this attack was a first on a BSF team, they added. This is the fourth incident of attack on security personnel in Chhattisgarh in January. On Thursday, two commandos of CoBRA, an elite jungle warfare unit of the CRPF, were injured when a pressure IED planted by Maoists went off in the neighbouring Bijapur district. On January 6, eight police personnel were killed in an IED in Bijapur district.
