The Union Health Ministry and Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) will collaborate to develop malaria elimination plans for forest dwellers.
According to the National Strategic Plan (NSP): Malaria Elimination (2023-2027) released by the Health Ministry, controlling malaria in forests and its fringe areas is key to achieving the malaria elimination goal by 2030.
A national-level joint coordination committee will be established to work in a mission mode under the chairmanship of Secretary, Union Ministry of Environment and Secretary, Union Health Ministry, to draw a joint action plan in order to prevent cases of malaria in forest areas. The committee will meet on an annual basis. Over 21 per cent of India’s geographical area has forest cover.
